There are many choices of roofing for your home, including composition shingle, slate, and concrete tile. Wood shake roofing is the most dangerous choice because of the fire hazard associated with it. Even if wood shake is pre-treated with a fire retardant that treatment will wear off after time and you will again be in danger.
If you live in certail areas designated as high fire risk you may not be allowed to put on a shake roof. Be sure to check with your insurance company to see what the laws are in your area.
